HARLINGEN CISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES ADOPTS BALANCED BUDGET EXPANDING STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES AND INCREASING NEW TEACHER PAY WHILE DECREASING TAXES

Harlingen, TX ā€“ During a Special Board Meeting held on June 25, 2024, the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees adopted a $215,307,524 budget that provides a one-time payment to all full- time district staff of $1,100 in December and will allow for the district to continue providing 100% health insurance coverage for full-time employees.

ā€œI want to commend our entire team and board of trustees that collaborated on the development of this yearā€™s budget, and I am proud that our district was able to present a balanced budget aligned with our district priorities that will benefit the students, staff, and the community. We always prioritize high quality instruction, expansion of opportunities for students and families, student safety and meeting the needs of our employees when considering the budget,ā€ said Dr. J.A. Gonzalez, Harlingen CISD Superintendent of Schools

The board of trustees also approved the 2024 - 2025 Employee Compensation Plan which is a comprehensive plan that includes an adjustment to the teacher hiring schedule with a starting pay of $54,000 for first year teachers.
