Harlingen CISD is excited to announce full approval of its Teacher Incentive Allotment for the second consecutive year.
This year, HCISD submitted 156 TIA designations. The approved TIA for the current year amounts to a total of $3.1 million.
āWe applied to join with our local designation system which is our way to identify highly effective teachers in the classroom,ā Teacher Incentive Allotment Specialist Erika Galvan said. āThrough TIA we are able to recruit teachers and reward the ones we already have.ā
Last year, 232 teachers were TIA approved bringing in $2.3 million.
āThis year, we have 105 additional teachers getting designated that didnāt previously earn it, and we have 51 teachers that we submitted for higher designation than what they originally earned,ā Galvan said. āThat tells you that our teachers are not just getting the award and then sitting back and resting. They are continuing to work hard and showing improvement.ā
Teachers were brought to the board room on February 6 for the surprise announcement.
āAs I go to campuses, I see the hard work, not only academically, but I see you all working on raising the emotional quotient of our students, loving them, guiding them, feeding them, nurturing them,ā Harlingen CISD Superintendent Dr. J.A. Gonzalez said. āThe State is recognizing your hard work. This district, this board, everybody in here is rallying around you all, and I am proud to say that once again, Harlingen CISD, is approved for the Teacher Incentive Allotment.ā
The TIA program originated in Texas House Bill 3 and focuses on recruiting, rewarding, and retaining highly effective teachers in Texas schools.
āThis acknowledgment made me feel that my hard work and dedication impacted the lives of our students as well as our community,ā Bowie Elementary teacher Claudia Meyers said.
