Harlingen CISD has partnered up with Calvary Baptist Church to support students in need by providing handmade beds for children.
The initiative, led by Calvary Baptist Church, aims to build 20 twin beds, complete with mattresses, pillows, and bedding.
After learning about a similar effort from his son in College Station, Dr. Ted Elmore, Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, brought the idea to Harlingen.
āThis isnāt about asking for anything in return,ā Dr. Elmore said. āItās about making sure every child has a safe, comfortable place to sleep.ā
Volunteers gathered at the churchās parking lot on Saturday to begin the work. The process included cutting, sanding, and staining wood in an assembly-line format.
The HCISD Family and Community Engagement Department collaborated closely with the church to identify families who would benefit from the project and coordinate its efforts.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Veronica Kortan highlighted the significance of the partnership. āWhen we do good for kids, it strengthens our entire community,ā Dr. Kortan said.
The completed beds are set to be delivered to families before Christmas.
