Harlingen CISD has implemented Centegix, an advanced safety tool to ensure the safety and security of students and staff across the district.
The systemāa wearable cardāfeatures panic button technology. With a simple press of a button, any staff member can instantly alert the districtās internal security team and first responders in the event of an emergency.
āIn the event of an emergency, every second matters,ā said Director of Emergency Management and School Safety Danny Castillo. āWhen the button is pressed, alert locations are visible on the districtās digital mapping system which is also shared with area law enforcement 911 centers. The Centegix network covers all district facilities including all campuses, support facilities and athletic venues. The system operates on a private, installed network independent of wi-fi, resulting in no signal dead zones.ā
Every staff member has been equipped with a Centegix card, and comprehensive training on the system has already been completed, ensuring everyone across the district is prepared to use the technology.
āI am part of the HCISD Safety Committee,ā Harlingen High School teacher Marina Longoria said. āParents are also part of the committee which involves the community and keeping them in the loop. As committee members, we can also ask questions and provide possible information on areas that need to be secured. I have been part of the HCISD family for at least 24 years and I have witnessed the changes in our districtās safety and security over the years. Centegix not only gives you a sense of security, but it lets you be in control of your safety and the safety of those around you by simply pressing a button.ā
Harlingen CISD is the only district in the Rio Grande Valley to currently have Centegix.
āThe addition of the Centegix Panic Card solution is a powerful enhancement to our existing safety and security strategies,ā Castillo said.
